The little bug turns two months old today. I swear we just brought her home yesterday. I sat down on the couch with my newborn, staring at her in wonder, looked up at the clock and it’s two months later.
She’s a bit bigger.
It’s still pretty surreal. Stephen and I looked at each other the other evening and I asked him, “Can you believe we have a baby?” and he shook his head, laughing, “No, I can’t. But she’s pretty awesome.”
She is pretty awesome.
Most of the time.
Having a baby is not all rainbows and butterflies, to be honest. There are a lot of rainbows and butterflies but there are also many storms. No, I wouldn’t trade having her for anything in the world but this gets hard. Having a baby requires an immense amount of patience, creativity, sacrifice, and teamwork.
I feel for all the single parents out there because I couldn’t do this without Stephen. I really don’t give him enough credit – he has so much patience for both Olivia and I and I love him more than anything for it.
And he is amazing with her. He holds her and talks to her all the time. He cuddles with her on the couch while he’s watching TV. He helps out with chores around the house if she’s demanding all of my attention (which is most of the time). He really is a wonderful father and I can’t wait to see them tumbling around together when she gets older.
Olivia is amazing. There really is no better word for it. She has the ability to stare right into your soul. It’s such a pure, innocent gaze that is so full of wonder and curiosity and love. I just hope she sees all my feelings for her in my eyes, too.
I can’t wait to see what this next month has in store for us…
