The Nursery Planning Commences

Planning a nursery is actually pretty fun.  There are tons of websites and books that offer a zillion different ideas.  I’m very artistic so I want my baby’s nursery to look cute, cool, fun and reflect his/her parents as well.

First, we found a nursery set at Babies R Us that was called Key”d Up.  It has all sorts of computer symbols all over it and came in dark chocolate and sort of a greyish-blue combination.  We really liked that a lot.  However, it always seemed a little dark to me.  The room for the nursery (currently our guest room) isn’t very big so dark colors would make it seem too cave-like and I definitely don’t want that.

Then, I found it.

Growing up, both Stephen and I had a love for Winnie the Pooh and everything that lived in the 100-acre Wood.  He was obsessed with the cartoons and watched them religiously and I was obsessed with the books and toys.

So, poking around on Target.com, what do I find?

Yes.

Classic Pooh is so timeless and so wonderful.  The color palette is much softer than modern Pooh and we can do a lot with it.  It’ll all make the room seem very bright and happy and a bit nostalgic.

Needless to say, everything in that category is on my registry now.

Now my mind is brimming with ideas about painting and things to put on the walls.  We just rent the house so I don’t want to go overboard but I want it to still be artistic and fun.

After the holidays, we’ll really get into getting the nursery ready – buying the furniture, getting rid of the furniture that’s in the room already, painting, etc.  One thing I would love for Christmas (hint, hint) is the boxed collection of the original A.A. Milne books with all the original artwork.  I have some ideas based on the original artwork but I would need a handy copy of the artwork, wouldn’t I?

After finding the furniture we want to get from IKEA, I started on Target.com looking through their Baby stuff.  Target is close to our house, it’s inexpensive (most of the time) and it has a wide variety of items.  Then a friend of mine who is also expecting told me to check out Babies R Us, too.

Thus began the Second Registry.

I thought about deleting one and just building one complete registry but then I noticed some price differences on the SAME EXACT ITEM between the stores so I would just delete the more expensive of the two.

Now, we have two registries.  The nursery decor and some of the more inexpensive items (when compared to said same item at BRU) are on the Target registry.  More of the “needs and recommendations” are on the Babies R Us registry. There are also fun extras on both.  I tried to keep both interesting so people would actually look at both before deciding what to purchase.

I have no idea how many showers I’ll have so having two registries may actually work out – plus we have large families and lots of friends.  I’m still endlessly tweaking them but feel free to peek if you want.

Five more months!
